I recently purchased the HK 510 for my home theater. Its big thing is that it has mp3 decoding capabilities.

I understand enough to know that it will only decode a digital signal .. say for example from a cd player that can play a data cd and output a digital signal. What hardware is there that I can buy for my laptop that will output my mp3 music as a digital signal? I currently have a firewire card plugged into my thinkpad. Because if I plug the headphone out of my laptop, not only is the processing is done by the mp3 playing software on my laptop, it is also outputting an analog signal and I am not taking advatange of the HK510.

Any clarification on my above understanding, or additional info / experience would be greatly appreciated!!
