We purchased an entry level DVD Player for my Mother for Christmas and I'm having trouble envisioning how I'm going to be able to hook this thing up on Christmas Day.
The DVD players has S-Video out or the three jack output (video, audio-l, audio-r). Her television has a single input for cable/antenna (the old standard fare with the screw on plug with a single wire in the middle). The cable comes in, through the VCR and then the VCR to the single jack in the back of the TV (standard set-up).
So what do I need to do to hook the DVD player up? My understanding is that you shouldn't go through a VCR because of the Macro encoding, so can I split the line to the TV some way so that one comes from the VCR and one from the DVD player? What do I need to do to get the S-video (i.e., S-video to cable line converter?) or the three jack input into the TV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Go to Radio Shack and get an adapter used to hook up a video game to a TV with just a coax input connection. This adapter will plug in to the back of the TV and the cable will hook to one side and the 3 RCA cables (video & audio L & R) will hook to the other side.

The adaptor you're looking for is called an RF Modulator, and will be about $30. You can get one at a bunch of stores including: Radio Shack, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. From those that I've seen, only the ones at Radio Shack have stereo audio connections, though.
