I just bought a new Philips DVD player for the bedroom. I hooked it up to the TV with a composite cable and to a old pioneer shelf system with RCA cables, I get a picture and sound when I play but I also get a static coming from the stereo speakers. What could be wrong?

If you haven't already, try these things:

First, make sure you have the right component selected on the shelf system (i.e. Aux if you hooked it up in aux).

Second, try unhooking everything from the shelf system (except the dvd), then hook one speaker up at a time and see if you can narrow down the problem.

Good luck!

Could be a lot of things: a blown speaker, a loose speaker wire, a bad R/L audio cable, interference. Better start checking one wire at a time.
