Has anyone used both, or know someone who has, or know a lot about both?

Just wondering what does each have to offer that the other wouldn't have, which one has the better channel selection, audio/video quality, price and equipment?

This seems to come up alot.

I have Direct TV and my brother-in-law has Dish Network.

Honestly I think this is a personal preference thing. Compare the packages and go with what you like.

In my case I have Sony equipment so I liked the remote compatibility. Also I like the look of the on-screen presentation of Direct TV (via Sony) but again I think that is personal preference.

Good luck

I wanted NFL Sunday Ticket and that means DirecTV because they have a DSS exclusive. Other than that, I'm not sure there's much of a difference. Sounds like Dish is offering more HDTV channels right now.

DirecTV=sports
Dish=international channels

I have DirecTV. Some argue that picture quality is better on Dish because DirecTV puts all their money in marketing and not equipment (i.e. fewer satillites). But, I think the picture quality's superb on both.

Too much video compression on both systems!
something that you have to watch out for with
Dish Network is that they have this freakin
habit of running "overtime" in commercial breaks, when their commercials are over and
they return to progam being shown, the program would already have started!
Anyone want evidence of this, tune to channel
205 tonite and see the O'Reilly Factor and
you'll know what I am talking about!

Must be only happening to you or in your area. I have had Dish Network satellite since July and it has never ever happened to me.

cloud, did you watch the Oreilly Factor tonite?
there is no such thing as "it must be happening in your area" with satellite
transmissions!!!!
As for video compression, the top brass
at Dish Network themselves admit it! With
the launch of the new birds (satellites)
they were supposed to fix the problem but
apparently they are now reserving the extra
bandwidth compression gives them so that
D/N can provide more "local" channels!
And if you have had your system only since
July, you do not know any better!!! This
video compression started around June 1999!

cloud, then it's obvious you have NO idea of what I am talking about!! Hate to sound cold but if you DO NOT watch America's #1 rated
current affairs program (The Oreilly Factor
even beats Larry King Live) and you have
only had your system 5/6 months, you are
still very NEW to this and are in NO position
to make comparisons.
Here's what you might want to do cloud:
watch the 8pm Eastern time LIVE edition of the Oreilly Factor and see how much Dish Network screws up this program with overruns
during commercial breaks, in particular the
first 30 minutes of the program.
Watch the same program again at 11pm Eastern,
this time this is the recorded version and PRESTO!!! No more overruns, you get to see
the entire program.
What it looks like to me is that DISH Network is knowingly cutting into program
air-time intentionally, especially since
they know the ratings this program has.
And, I am sure FOX will be after DishNetwork
soon to end this practice or else!

BillumillAmerika,
First of all let's get this straight, just because I have only had Dish for 4 months does not make me any less qualified then you.

Secondly you are complaining about one show. I don't watch that show nor do I care to. I am refering to the Dish service in general. I watch a lot of Tv and have never ever come across this problem. If it is an issue with the "O' Reilly Factor" that does not automatically mean that Dish as a whole is not worth it.

So please don't say it's not worth getting the Dish Network service because of this one issue you have with it.

cloud, i just do not want to enter into any further posts with you - period! When you educate yourself more about a/v then we can talk!
Necros, do not just rely on me, get a second opinion, maybe even from DishNetwork Tech Support themselves!

I don't need to educate myself further regarding A/V and I take you comment as an insult. You have you opinion and I have mine. However you don't know me so don't go making judgements on my A/V knowledge. You are making a mountain out of a molehill and just don't want to admit to it. That's fine with me. End of discussion.

By the way I was just stating my observations and opinions not criticizing yours.
