Headphone amp?
I'm going to connect wired headphones to the audio output on my cable box for late night TV viewing. My only volume option will be from a small amp. Can anyone recommend an amp? Preferably a portable one and under $100 or so? I've heard Fiio brand is good but never used.

I tried the E12, totally pointless with low to regular ohm cans. Probably would have been great with high ohm models. But it totally veiled my 38Ω ATH-M50s and moderately veiled the 64Ω HD 280 Pros. What headphones do you have?
Perhaps the cheaper amps would be better if you have "regular" headphones like me. There are tons of amps under $100, even under $50, so plenty to try.

Something like the FiiO E11 would probably work well (~$60), it has adjustable gain and volume which will help you get the right output. My inference from you situation is that you will be taking the line level output (RCA analog) and amping it for headphones? Just make sure you get something with adjustable volume, some of these amps are designed to work with your iphone and don't have a built in volume knob. There are also amps with built in digital to analog converters if you have a digital output on the cable box.
