I'm looking to subscribe my buddy to a Home Theater magazine for XMas and I was wondering if anybody has some suggestions and links where I can subscribe him. Let me know. And I know DVDTalk has everything he may need to know, but I need to wrap something up.

Home Theater Magazine is the best in the business. They are the perfect blend of technical expertise and they still have some fun too. I subscribe to all the major magazines, and this is by far the best in my opinion.

Not that it matters much since you've already ordered, but I find Home Theater to be among the least valuable of the mags out there. Their rating system really bothers me. Giving numeric ratings (like 4.3 or 4.7) to equipment implies a precision that is unwarranted. Beyond that, they often listen to equipment for only a few days before writing a review. And they admit that they often do not take the time to set up the equipment properly.

Much better IMO is Perfect Vision or Stereophile Guide To Home Theater.

Widescreen Review is another magazine you might consider if you're looking for something additional...

I agree with DVDRules1.Widescreen Review is easily one of the best available. As far as Hometheater Mag.I have had a subscription to them for 4 years and they have been getting worse and worse every year.I got my last magazine from them this month and it is the last.

I think that you are confusing Home Theater with another mag. Home Theater Magazine uses a 100 base numbering scale for all of it's equipment reviews.

HTM is weak. They use a 100 point scale and rate everything in the top 15%. Because of this, you really can't compare products. High -end products and low-end products all rate about the same despite the fact they obviously prefer the high-end stuff.

Basically, they love everything they review. Of course, how can they not when their pages are filled with gigantic advertisements from all of the HT manufacturers. I think they just kiss a** to the manufacturers so they can keep getting advertising and free stuff to play with.

I have to disagree with Hometheater Mag. giving everybody a good grade. They gave the Bose Accoustimass 10 the lowest score ever.It rated overall in the 60`s.I have aslo seen many in the 70`s.But I agree they are one of the worst available.

HTM is for the Rich and Famous. I'm more in the price ranges of Sound & Vision. Someday i'll be in the higher range.

Unfortunately I think Brilon is right about HomeTheater mag. They were excellent until editor (I think his name was Brent Butterworth) left over a year ago. They've been steadily going down hill since. I actually think Sound and Vision has recently improved to the point they are now better that HTM.

One thing you must consider about Home Theater Magazine..for $11.99..for 12 issues..that's a steal considering they each cost $5.

I give them another year (I just re-subscribed)..and if I see it is going downhill..then no $11 bucks.
