I am not an expert on speaker wire but from what I have read here and in HT mags I would say that 20-22 guage is not a good choice. You should go with at least 16 guage or lower - 12 guage is good, especially if you have long speaker wire runs. I went from 20 guage to 16 and it made a big difference even though my HT is not that great.

cloud is right, Use no smaller than 16ga., basically, the larger the guage the better, especially for long wire runs.

Yes, 12 gauge is good, especially if you have long speaker wire runs.

So what exactly do you call a "LONG" speaker run - just curious because I am getting ready to re-wire. Currently have 16 gauge going to the rears..

Thanks.

The cable that came with your system is 18 gauge and the recommended gauge (by Bose corp) for the "average" system. However, upgrading to 16 gauge is nice. This is necessary if you are running over 50 feet and/or using a high power / high current amp.

Hope this helps.

BTW:
Recommendations-
Under 50' - 16 gauge
50-70' - 14 gauge
over 70' - 12 gauge
