I'm thinking about buying one of those cable amplifiers for a TV at the end of my house which has a ghost image on certain channels. Do they really work or will it be wasted money?

Thanks

I bought one for about $30 from the Good Guys when I had cable. It did make a difference but did not get rid of the ghosting 100%. I had the cable company out three times to look at the problem but they could nither determine what the problem was or fix it. They ended up blaming it on interference from a nearby radio transmitter antenna. I got fed up so I switched to satellite. Except for the occasional pixelization I it works fine with a crisper sharper image and better sound quality.

You might want to try it, but make sure you can return it if it does not make no or very little difference.

The main problem with a cable amplifier is that it will amplify any imperfections in the signal as well. If you're having issues with ghosting it will most likely make things worse. Some people swear by the Mondial Magic Box (here's a link) but I've never used it.

Does the ghosting only happen on cable channels that use the same number as the actual over-the-air channel? That's caused by your tuner trying to pick up both the cable and broadcast versions of the same station at the same time and can be a real pain to get rid of.
