Hey All,

Newbie Southpaw again asking questions...

A lot of DVD players offer decoded DD, and most all offer at least Digital out of DD/DTS.

Most all receivers worth anything offer both DD/DTS decododing and I understand that it is better to let the receiver do the decoding instead of the DVD player. With this in mind, I have a couple of questions:

1)Why do you really need both decoders??
2)What is a decent DVD player that just streams the DD/DTS output?
3)I am looking at Onkyo receivers...good choice?

thanks

You don't.

The Toshiba 1200, Toshiba 1600, and Pioneer 333 are all recommended over and over again here in the $180 to $250 range. Doing a search will yield lots more info.

Onkyo makes nice receivers. So do a lot of companies. It really depends on your budget and needs.

One clarification: for DD either one can do the decoding but it is better overall for the receiver to be true DD. For DTS both need to be DTS compatible or it will not work. Onkyo and Yamaha are both well respected receivers at the forum.
