I just bought a new wires for my PS2 that will allow me to use S-Video instead of the regular yellow video cable. I was wondering how many people have done this and if they noticed a difference in the game graphics when they did.
(Please don't reply if you haven't tried it out and actually looked at the screen yourself. I'm only looking for specific PLAYSTATION2 responses, and not people who have had previous experiences with S-Video on their regular DVD players or their TiVos.)
Also, I was wondering where you can buy the optical wires for DD 1.5 and DTS that you can use with the PS2. And does any game actually enforce a DD soundtrack into their game currently?

I have a PS2 as well as a Dreamcast, PSOne, N64 etc. I have used both composite and S-Video on these systems. I currently have the PS2 and Dreamcast hooked up via S-Video. FWIW it does make a big difference. There is more clarity and sharpness in the picture and it is definitely worth using S-Video as the video connection.
Secondly the PS2 has a standard digital optical connection so any optical cable will work. You can buy them in places like Best Buy, Good Guys, Circuit City, Sears and HT specialist stores. They start at around $10 for the really cheap ones to a couple of hundred for the high end. What quality you buy all depends on your HT setup and budget amongst other things. None of the current games use DD/DTs as producing surround sound in real time is extremely difficult. You may see some games use it in there cut scenes and intro's. Square is going to include cut scenes in The Bouncer with DD 5.1 sound and they are trying to figure out a way to include it in the game. However due to the processing power needed it is highly unlikely you will see it being used in any game during actual gameplay.

I would agree with Cloud....as with movies, I tried the composite connection with The Abyss and was surprised by how bad the picture was.....I will be using the S-video connection on a regular basis now with movies and video games!!! As cloud mentioned in a post about the PS2, I will mostly be playing video games on this system since I already have multiple players at home!!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Hey Cloud, where did you get an S-Video cable for the Dreamcast? Do they actually make them specifically for the Dreamcast or did you have to do some fancy wiring? I was looking into buying one a long time ago but I gave up when I couldn't find any.
And is there such thing as an optical wire splitter? I have only one optical port in the back of my Yamaha receiver, but I want to be able to connect both my DVD player and my PS2 to it without having to switch it out everytime. Any suggestions?

Interact makes one for the Dreamcast. I'm sure there are other brands. You just have to look around for it.

Yes, try Electronics Boutique, Babbages, Software Etc., Best Buy, Frys, Good Guys. Most of these if not all carry the Dreamcast S-Video cable. I beleive it sells for around $10 and there are several brands I think.
As far splitting the optical cable connection I don't think it's doable. Don't your DVD player and receiver have coax digital inputs as well. My Sony DVD player has both coax and digital and so does my Yamaha receiver. So I connect the DVD player via coax and the PS2 via optical.

does the component cable also have audio connections, or do you have to use the optical out with it? most pictures of the ps2 component cables don't seem to show audio cables, unlike the s-video cable which i believe comes with them. my bedroom tv has component inputs but my old receiver doesn't have any digital inputs. would I be able to use the component cables for my system?
