I've seen mentioned here before ways to "calibrate" your HT systems somehow.. well what exactly do I need to do for mine?

Is there a DVD you buy that tells you how to set certain things on the tv and reciever? If so what's it called?

Either the Video Essentials DVD or the Avia Guide to Home Theater DVD are good places to start.

I've used Video Essentials, and it makes a world of difference.

A number of THX certified discs (Fight Club, T2 and Toy Story adn others) now come with an optimode function which you can use to do this. You need a sound meter to do it right, radio shack sell them for 30-40 dollars. My recommendation is if you do Netflix rent Video essentials and calibrate your HT, then if you feel that it needs recalibration use the optimode thus saving $25+.

There are two parts of the process. 10 the sound should be adjusted so that the test tone registers at the same level (70db) which you need the sound meter. 2) almost all the picture settings are probably off as set by the factory and you can use some test patterns and a filters to adjust them as you'll see in VE.
Good luck!

Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't THX Optimode intended to be used specifically for the dvd its contained on and not for adjusting your system for daily use? Im not trying to start a debate, but I thought I had read that somewhere.
