I have a 36" Sony Wega XBR250 which I heard has a 16x9 mode, but I can't figure out how to use it. If I set the DVD player to 16x9 to watch an anamorphic disc, it stretches the picture. How do I set the TV to display 16x9 properly? I bought a display model which didn't have an owners manual and I don't know how any other way to find out.
Thanks in advance.

Is there an on screen menu item for 16:9 Enhanced mode in this model (There is in my FV16)?
If so, turn it on when viewing anamorphic DVD's.
If there's not this option in the normal on screen menus, you may have to access the service menu. Others on the board will have better info on this than I.
Good luck.

Hi,
I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that the xbr250 was one of the first to incorporate the anamorphic squeeze (besides the panasonic xf55). It required that you use the component video connection. (later models ie. fs/fv 12, 16, 26 let you use s video).
One other problem was that you would have to recalibrate you settings each time you switched from dvd (enhanced mode), to normal mode.

Can't help with the 16x9 issue, but call (or write or e-mail, but calling is best) to Sony USA about this. Like most large corps, they are understanding about this and will send you a manual if you explain your situation - they did for me a couple years ago. Sorry, forgot the contact info but check out their web site. You might also have some warranty left.
