Is there any noticeable differences between using component v. a S-video cable?

depends on the size of your TV...for 27" No. for 32" very barely. for 36" slightly noticeable. for projections...YES!

There can be depending on your TV. Component can be much better is your set can take advantage of it.

I have a 36" Toshiba and just upgraded to component last week and the difference was night and day.

Absolutly Incredible Difference, GET THEM NOW

got a set of the AR's from http://www.ac4l.com and got them in 3 days.

Also make sure to get a setup DVD (Avia, Vidwo Essentials) to help set everything up right.

It's debatable whether you need to spend much on these cables. I bought 3 12' Radio Shack Gold video cables for about $12 each which seem to work very well. But the $45 for the linked AR 12' set is a really good price.

Is the AR quality worth upgrading to?

I upgraded from the "in the box" S video cable that came with my DVD player to a Monster Video 3 component cable, and there IS a noticeable difference.
There is much less color bleed, and the contrast is much improved. Also, colors seem more vibrant than before.

I have not, however, tried a good quality S-video vs. component video comparison, which might be more beneficial.

Edclem made a good point...it also depends on the quality of the S-Video cable you're using.

For component, 3 seperate video cables work just as well as more expensive 'Component' cables. THey're the same thing basically.

AR makes some really good wires for price/performance. I think AR's wires are as good if not better than Monster's. www.ac4l.com has all sorts of AR wires going from speaker wire to component cables. Check them out.

I don't know what you are talking about. S-Video and Component are by far much better then composite. If you have the option you should always use S-Video or component over composite.

I don't personally have component, when I was shopping for a new tv that was a top priority, but I got a really good deal on the set so I figured I could live with s-video for a 36" set. It's the size that matters, the bigger they say you should go with component. A friend of mine has a Sony Wega (schmega!!), he paid twice as much for his set, he has component and my Panasonic has a better picture than his $1700 Wega, a 36" also. So, do whatever you think is best. My s-vid has an excellent picture. One thing I'll definitely say that does make a big difference in the quality of the picture, is to get hold of an Avia disc or Video Esentials and calibrate the tv 'exactly' as they tell you to and in the sequence they tell you to, very important. BIG difference, you'll be amazed, I was!! Peace SteveF

Mr. Longshanks

I totally agree with "Spoons" post.

There is very big difference with component verse S-Video.

I played my DVD's on a analog 50" Mitsubishi with cheap S-video cable.

Quality wasn't that bad, so I thought.

I then changed to a Monster S-Video & there was a difference.

I bought my new digital TV in Sept. & decided to go with component.

The difference is unreal, for sure!

Cheaper cables are no way shielded correctly.

All I said above might be because I now have a digital TV, verse a analog TV?

Just like we need a digital receiver to receive digital 5.1 sound.

We also need a digital TV to get full benefit
& resolution from our DVD's.

Anyway you look at it, the high quality cables are better!
After reading post here for past few weeks.

I hooked up 3 cheap "Radio Shack" cables to my component input.

My Monster cables makes big time difference!

Hopes this helps you!

Should i buy monster cables for my s-video hookup. Right now i am using some cheap ones i purchased at radio shack. Are you saying that monster cables provide a big difference for component quality only or do you think that they could make a big difference in my s-video quality too?

Did you use the highest-end Radio Shack ones or their junkier ones?

If you feel your picture quality is great right now? stay the way you are.

Yes, my experience shows that there is more then enough difference from S & Component!
Then again I was using a 50" & now 53" TV...
not sure if that makes a difference?

Some of these people may be correct & cables don't make a difference?
When I had my analog 50" TV I saw a difference that was enough to switch from cheap to monster S-Video.
When I recently bought my digital HDTV, the component really made a bigger difference!

My guess is that you have a analog TV & not digital?
Since your sending a digital picture to a analog source, not getting total benefit.
You may want to stay were you are & when you upgrade to a digital TV, go better cables?
Just a suggestion.

Now you got me, as not really sure?
I do know they had gold connections...
not the silver ones.
At the time, the gold seemed to be best they had.
