I'm looking to buy one in early January. Is $1799 a high, or decent price?

The WEGA is great, I love mine. My friend bought one at The Wiz, in New York for $1600 almost 2 years ago. Delivery was $60. He loves it too.

Shop around online. Try Onecall.com. Good luck.

At first, I didn't think the flat screen would make that much of a difference. However, after watching movies on my WEGA KV-36FV16, I can't go back to a regular TV! I have had problems with Sony products in the past, and I was somewhat leary of the WEGA when I first bought it. However, it has performed past my expectations. With the built-in 16:9 function and the component video inputs, it is my opinion that you cannot find a better TV for the money.

Like tankusuker said, do some shopping around - both online and B&M. However, I have rarely seen these TVs go on sale at B&M stores. Best of luck!

You'll be better off shelling out an extra $200 on the 36XBR400 from J&R. That's where I got mine. It was $1900 + Shipping. But the shipping was pretty hefty on this 250lb item...it was an extra $280.

Just a thought.

The Toshiba TW40X81 is a projection TV. I was excited until I learned that! I've always found the projection picture to be not as good as a tube. Has anyone seen this unit in person that can comment on the picture quality?

I'm looking at the 36XBR400 as well. I think it's also worth the extra money.

My friend has a 36FV16 and likes it very well. Very bright clear picture viewable from all angles. He bought his 15 months ago.

Anyone know who else might sell the 400? Circuit City has it for 2500$

Well, you can do the mail order thing from onecall.com, but since you're in WA I'm guessing that they charge you sales tax.

I have seen this unit in person and the picture is nothing short of amazing. This set blows the 36inch Wega out of the water. Of course the Toshiba can't be used in rooms with a lot of light but other then that the Wega can't compare. The Toshiba is a 40inch widescreen HD RPTV that offers a tremendous picture when calibrated right. You will compromise an inch or two on 4x3 viewing with the Toshiba as compared to the Wega but the 16x9 aspect of the Toshiba is well worth it in my opinion. I feel that if you meet the viewing criteria for this tv then it is definately worth the few extra $100 over the Wega. You definately need to check out this tv with a progressive scan dvd player the picture is fantastic.

I have the 36" xbr400, and everyone who walks in my house immediately bows down and prays to the sony TV gods because it looks that good. highly recommended. the only problem is, it weighs a ton. Forget about moving it by yourself. My brother in law works for the Wiz, so I got it for under 2K with the stand and delivery.

A friend of mine has a Wega and my Panasonic has a better picture than the Sony. I don't know if it's his setup or what, but I most certainly have a better picture. I also don't like the grey cabinet, it doesn't go away while watching the tv. It just sort of sticks out at you, the box on my Panasonic just seems to disappear when the lights are down and the movie begins!! Something to think about. Everytime I watch his set, I get the same reaction, the box sticks out!!
But it could just be me?? Enjoy!! SteveF
