M i c h a e l thanks for the extensive post. I just saved the file to my computer for off-line viewing and reference. Again, thanks to everyone for all the input. I will spend the next few weeks looking and listening to your recommendations.

I just thought I would bump this again as it is good information. With Christmas coming, many people may be wanting a Home Theater setup from Santa.

By the way, here is an update on my Home Theater odyssey. My theater budget was used to put in a fence and landscaping. I will have to wait until after the first of the year before I can make the purchase. I have enjoyed listening to the theater setups in the local stores.

If anyone has any new ideas, please share them. My budget will now be closer to the $4,000 range.

Thanks again to all the original posters for the good info.

Can anyone add to this info? I am still in the evaluation stage and would appreciate any additional comments.

Fisherman,
Have you narrowed anything down yet? After hearing some decent home theaters has it made you think twice about those Cerwin Vegas?

Yes, I am reconsidering the Cerwin Vega option. I still like the efficient nature of their professional speaker line, but will likely go with another brand.

My theater room is going to be locate in my basement and I plan to finish the rooms this spring/summer. I am constantly tinkering with the layout of the basement and have not finalized the exact size of the theater portion.

I am also thinking of upgrading the TV to a projection unit. I have heard that there is a special paint that can be used to transform a wall into screen for a projection TV. My floor joist run the opposite way of the screen and I am unable to hide the screen in the ceiling.

Thanks for all the help.

Well, I am back to try and get the basement home theater completed. I had to redirect priorities for a while (new baby) but will now try and get the home theater completed this year.

I think I am leaning toward RBH Sound speakers, but the rest is open. Same price range as before.

I bumped the old thread as it has good info.

I would appreciate any additional input.

Classic - welcome back.

I would take your favorite music and go listen. I know that sound rooms very a bunch but it will give you an idea. Then look at which fit best in your room. There are a ton of speakers at this price so there is no easy answers.

ALOT has changed in 4 years.

You really need to start over with a budget and begin listening and viewing alot of equipment.

I completed my theater almost one year ago, you can see it from the link in my sig.

Come on back when you have more questions.

Good luck!

This is a pretty decent list. At least a starting point.
