Audio delay in optical out
Due to an old receiver, I had to use the optical audio out from the tv to the receiver for the cable box. This results in a slight mismatch in audio/video sync. Is there any way to adjust this? The receiver is a Sony STR DE-595.

Why are you going from the TV to the receiver rather than from the cable box to the receiver? The output on the TV is usually only for the audio output from the TV's built-in tuner.

How are you connecting the cable box to the TV? I agree with Salty; I'd run video from the box to the TV and have the audio go direct to the receiver.
Some receivers have a delay setting so you can adjust it in milliseconds. I'm not familiar with Sony receivers but I'd look to see if it has an audio delay option like that.

Re: Audio delay in optical out
I am using hdmi from the box to the TV. The receiver has no hdmi. I wanted that for the picture quality. If I run an audio cable from the box to the receiver will that work with the hdmi connected to the tv? I'll try it. I'll also check to see if there is a delay setting.

Re: Audio delay in optical out
Before I got a new receiver, I had separate HDMI to TV and digital audio out to receiver. I didn't notice any delay, although I did have to mute the TV (since the HDMI was carrying audio to it as well).

Re: Audio delay in optical out
Depends on the cable box. Some allow you to select the audio output port, some do not.
The delay is the extra hop (ie: TV). This is a common issue.
Also of note, most TV's only pass stereo audio out the optical connection. The only surround audio that is output from the optical port would be anything decoded by the internal tuner (ie: broadcast).
