Removing USB drive from Blu Ray player question

This may be a dumb question, so forgive me if it is. I have a Sony BDP-S590 blu ray player, which has a USB port in the front. I don't have any streaming or networking services set up in my house yet, so I load videos, music, etc on a USB drive from my PC, then take the USB drive and plug it into the Sony blu ray player to access the media on my blu ray player and HDTV.

My question is, when removing a USB drive from a blu ray player, should there be a procedure involving the safe removal of the USB drive? On PCs, there's the "Safely Remove Hardware" process which supposedly is recommended when using USB drives, but I don't see an option for anything like that on my blu ray player.

Is it ok to just yank the USB drive out of a device like this? I don't see what other option I have, so I assume so. But I just wanted to ask in case I was overlooking something.

Re: Removing USB drive from Blu Ray player question

It's unlikely there's any data being written. I'd just stop playback, exit the file explorer by returning to the home screen before removing the drive.
