Three of us are hearing distortion on Jeff Goldblum's voice at various parts of the movie. The problem shows up in both DD5.1 and Dts versions. (See topic JP and Paradigm CC170 center).
Two of us are using Paradigm CC170 centers and one is using a Mission 200.
Is any one else hearing this? I am trying to determine if its the disks or the speakers.

Audio effects are great, video is sparkling, dialog could be better through the whole movie. Not consistantly crisp. This is through my Yammy 2095 and Infinity Overtures in DTS and through my friends, Denon 3800 and Klipsch's in DD.

I thought I could hear a little bit of a hiss during one scene where he was talking. Maybe one of the scenes inside the tour cars? It wasn't as bad as some of the scenes in Platoon though. It wasn't a loud hiss, which made me wonder if it was from the dialogue or an intended sound.

I heard the crackling\hiss while he was talking in the electric cars on the original tour in the park.

james et al.,
I went for my replacement speaker today.
I'm still not home...working...so I'll give
an update later on tonight.
I'll test the DD5.1s and the DTS, i have both
versions...why, cuz I'm nuts.
Anyhow...can you guys give me more examples
of where you heard the distortion?
JP- Goldblum during the dinner scene.
Goldblum in the car.
Any other ones?

Well, just got home and hooked up the new
speaker. Still get that sound. Even at
low volume I can still hear that sound.
I'm wondering if it's the disc, not just one
but the way it was encoded or something...
maybe sound was overcompensated or something?

I realize this has probably been answered somewhere but....
Is the Dolby Digital version ok as far as the sound goes...I have to admit....my DTS copy of Jurassic Park leaves something to be desired during the T-Rex scene and in other places!!!
The Dolby Digital reviews on dvdtalk say the sound is very good!!!!

Watched the DD version of Jurassic Park last night, and I too heard distortion in the center channel during many of Jeff Goldblum's scenes. (Acoustic Research ARC2 center channel speaker).

Maybe I will stick with my DTS version!!! It is a shame that Universal would release this disc with sound quality that does not rival the laserdisc version!!!

Just watched my DTS version all the way through... I definitely heard some crackling loud and clear when Goldblum was talking in the electric cars. I have an Energy Take 1 Center. On a side, I wasn't at all disappointed with the sound from the sub or surrounds. However, I did think the picture was a bit disappointing. It'a a shame that I have this much to complain about with such a highly anticipated disc. You think companies would REALLY put effort into making one of the most anticipated DVD releases ever a reference quality disc.

I also heard the crackling\hiss while he was talking in the electric cars on the original tour in the park.
It is in BOTH the DD and the DTS version. I would say it is WAY more obvious in the DTS version for whatever reason.
After listening to certain scenes in BOTH repeatedly, I think the DD version is better over all than the DTS version. I am glad I had friends that bought both so I don't waste my money (I usually always buy DTS when available, this time I will not)
I guess the crackle must be in the master

Yes distrtion is present in the scene you guys mentioned in Jrassic Park. Also, in the Lost World there is distortion when the T-Rex roars. Strange stuff, dialog in Jurassic Park exhibits distortion but the roars are crystal clear, Lost World the dialog is clear without distortion but the roars have distortion. Oh well, guess they should have paid a little more attention during the mastering process.
