hi, i was wondering, is there a big difference between connecting a dvd player via digital coax, digital toslink, or analog RCA ???? My current setup is a Pioneer DV-333 DVD player with a Pioneer VSX-D509S receiver (Using Acoustic Resesarch HC2 speaker package)...... whats the pros/cons of each, and is it okay to use a video cable as my digital coax cable? I am currently using a $2 10' video cable from www.recotondirect.com as my digital coax, and it seems to work fine.... i know it was really cheap, but am i losing a lot of sound quality this way (I can't tell, this is my first home theater.. it seems decent, gold plated and stuff)..... it sure is cheaper than the monster cable stuff i see for like $30+ etc. and seems to work... also, while you're still here, where can i get a subwoofer cable around 10' for a good price (i want decent quality too)....
Thanks,
Anthony

Anthony

In the event that this a real post, not one designed to spur Cable War MMCLXXX...
UcLaGeE,
For audio, cable questions are right up there politics & religion, Bose & DTS vs DD.
As Frank says there are number of posts about cables. Most of them are quite divided in opinion - anywhere from "lamp cable/coat hangers are enough - amps are amps/bits are bits" to "spend as much for cables as the rest of your system - it's an otherworldly experience."
To me, what you're doing w/the digital signal seems FINE and is sensibly w/in the budget of the rest of your equipment, which is mostly entry/budget level (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
For your sub cable, depends a little on what quality cable you're using for the rest of the system. Probably best to get stuff that's similar quality to the rest of the system. I tend to think of sub cables as less critical than other speaker cables. Some common lower end retailers: radioshack, homedepot, recotron, avconnect,...
You can always TRY potential upgrades (make sure the cables are returnable), if you are curious. That's part of the fun.

Yes, this was a real post, I didn't realize this was such a controversial subject, but I just wanted to get some info, which you helped me out with BEC, so I thank you for that. I guess that's all I need then.... Next time i'll make sure to search before I post (forgive me, I'm new!)
Thanks,
Anthony
