Is anyone else having trouble playing new Warner Brothers DVDs like "Any Given Sunday" or "Get Carter" on their Pioneer DVL 700 LD/DVD player? I can't even get them to play.

No trouble with Any Given Sunday on my Pioneer DVL 919, which I believe is two generations after yours.

The DVL 700 is a first generation player which I had purchased in 1997....less than one year later I had to take it to the repair shop to be upgraded....if you have not had this player upgraded at all this may be your problem!! Also, the supposed upgrade did not work!!! I use it now for only laserdiscs and have two other players handling my dvds now. You may want to upgrade to a new player.

I have one of those as well. I called Pioneer when the upgrade was available and was told that Fleetwood Mac: The Dance was the dvd in question. If I did not have that movie, they would not fix my player. They also said that that disc was unique and that people were not going to use that format again.

I do not have the movies that you are pointing to, but I have not had any problem with any others.

Vlad,

Glad to see you live in the same area as me. I just called Pioneer and they acknowledged the WB problem. I was told to take my unit to Harwest Sound & Video in Garland (972-278-6858) for a free upgrade. I would suggest doing this before you actually encounter a problem disc.

Hmmm,

I just sold this player on eBay for $420.

I only had slight problems playing the Matrix on it.
I should tell the person who won it to get it upgraded ... I never did ...

Otherwise, it really was a GREAT player. For being a first generation DVD player, it has served me well.
