The most straight-forward way to turn off subtitling is to press the SUB-T button on your remote. You may have to press it several times, as each press will cause the APEX to cycle through each of the available subtitle options on the DVD in question. For example, if your DVD is subtitled in English, French, and Spanish, and it's displaying English titles, you may need to press it 3 times to get to the "Subtitle Off" position.
It's on page 24 of the user's manual. See http: //64.45.6.252/apex/Manual/Apex_Manual_Pages/apex_manual_pages_24.html for further info.
If this problem happens with ALL of your DVDs, then you've somehow set up the player to default to "Subtitles On". To fix this, do the following with your remote:
1 - Press "Set Up"
2 - Scroll to "General Setup" and press Enter
3 - Scroll to "Subtitle" and press Enter
4 - Scroll to "Off" and press Enter
5 - Press "Set Up" (to exit)
