just wanted to share this link to help those in need
jvc dvds will occasionally lock up and need to be reset (the disk will spin but nothing will show on screen, the only control that works is the power button, which you will have to turn off and then back on to remove the dvd - it may still play older dvds and vcds but with newer dvds will lock up.
you will need your model number (usually on front) the reset instructions can be found at link below
