I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm wondering how hard it is to install a CD changer in a car. I have a ford Explorer and would probably mount the unit under the back seat. I've installed 4 or 5 head units and fog lights successfully over the years and am somewhat mechanical FWIW.

If you have installed head units you should have no problem installing a cd changer.

It is a simple 2 wire hookup for a changer that matches a head unit with cd changer control. One switched power and one line level.

Any diffrent to hook it up if its a RF model? Or does that make it easier? I'm thinking its a matter of few mountiong bolts and running a power lead... Kind of tough to justify a $50 install fee at an electrionics store..
Thanks
Jeff

There are several web sites (sorry I don't know them off the top of my head--one of them is radiosandmore.com) that sell Alpine/Sony changers that directly interface with the Ford factory units (presuming yours has the changer controls). May want to search around for them. You have to know the EXACT model number of your factory system.

You also might want to call Crutchfield.

The RF type will just be something you route your FM antenna through, plus the power. It's the easiest/simplest way to connect. Keep in mind that FM signal spec only goes to 15khz so I think there may be some audible limits imposed by that configuration--although you'll never notice it with Ford's factory speakers (I've owned a '97 Explorer and now have a '00 Expy).

Good luck.
