What is this new technology? What does it do? Is this worth upgrading? Supposedly the new Toshiba SD2300 DVD player will incorporate this.

NUON was originaly a technology that was designed as a stand alone game console to compete against systems like Playstation, Dreamcast and Playstation 2 as well as something that could be integrated into other electronic components to enhance there standars features and provide game playing features. The game console idea never took off but companies like Samsung and Toshiba have/are integrating it into some of their DVD players. Supposedly this enhances their standard features/capabilities and also gives them the ability to play special NUON based games. I beleive the players come bundled with some games and there are supposed to be more games released. I don't think this will take off as most game developers don't seem to have a serious interest in developing for it. I would say that it's most direct competitor would PS2 and the forth coming Nintendo Game Cube/DVD player combo coming from Matsushita the parent company of Panasonic, technics and Quasar.
