HD TV audio issues when playing a blu-ray or DVD

When playing Blu-Rays or DVDS on my Blu-Ray player on obviously my HD TV, I crank up the volume to a pretty loud level since I don't have any audio equipment of any kind, so I get my sound purely from the TV speakers. Anyway, I have the sound setting on my TV on 'news' since its the best sounding option to choose from, but quite regularly when I'm watching a Blu-Ray disc or DVD the audio makes this buzzing sound like this zzzzz especially during loud actions scenes or when there is loud dialog etc...

anyway it gets even worse when I turn the 'Bass' audio on, so I leave it off for that reason. Anyone know why this is happening and how I can get the best audio possible without having to buy any equipment.

May help to list just what kind of audio and speaker equipment you are using. Sounds like it could be a number of reasons.

At least tell us HOW you have your blu ray's audio connected to your TV. I'm guessing you use RCA's (red and white cables).

Nope. My Blu-Ray player is hooked up via a HDMI cable, which as you probably know imports both video and audio signals.

Still relevant to post your TV and BluRay player models so we can figure out what's going on.

Try the Dynamic Range Control and then PCM Downsampling options in the Audio Menu setup of your blu-ray player to see if the noise stops.

Put NO on Dynamic Range and try that out; if it doesn't change, then try changing the downsampling to whatever option is not selected at the moment.

Do you have this problem when using any other sources or just with the Blu-ray player?

visitor Q

i've noticed its for regular TV as well. Sometimes when I'm watching stuff on normal TV even if the volume isn't that loud, it will make that buzzing sound every now and then.

Re: HD TV audio issues when playing a blu-ray or DVD

I could be wrong, but that could be a blown speaker tweeter within to TV itself then; having absolutely nothing relating to the source (Cable box/Player/Console/[insert name]). Are the problematic sounds (hissing or whatever) continuous or intermittent?

Since turning up the bass, as you put it, sends lower frequency waves to the speakers which may not support them over time (especially with highly dynamic soundtracks), the higher volumes may be dangerous enough to actually blow the speakers.

How old is the display?

If you're playing your TV speakers very loud, then you may have blown a tweeter, or a circuit. TV speakers are not constructed to be played at an amplified level because of their very low wattage, which indicates they cannot be played at a high volume like a designated A/V receiver that's capable of handling 100 watts per channel, and more. If you want more powerful audio output, then you'll have to buy a receiver. TV speakers are insufficient for listening to full range digital, HD sound.
