BB BluRay player question

I hope there wasn't a better place for this, but I'm finally thinking of dipping my toe in the BluRay waters, and saw this one in an e-mail from Best Buy:

http://www.bestbuy.com/ShopEarly

I was curious as to people's thoughts on it (or should I wait for Black Friday and see what comes about?).

Re: BB BluRay player question

I just got a player two weeks ago. I would pay a little more and get one that has wi/fi built in. The built in Wi/Fi has been a nice feature and one of the selling points to finally getting a blu ray player. So far i have watched 6 blu ray movies and it has been great.

Can't comment on this particular player since I have a Panasonic (which as played every disc I've loaded). Read the reviews (on BB and other places such as Amazon). If you will use it to watch DVDs see what they say about up-scaling. But as to whether to wait for Black Friday, there's a couple things to consider:

1) Get the player now (if it has the features you want). You will then have it all set up with any kinks ironed out by the time Black Friday rolls around and you can concentrate on loading up on Blu-ray movies. Before you grab it from BB, check other places to see if you can get an even better deal.

2) Wait until Black Friday (it's only a few weeks away) because you know there will be some players on sale. Use this time to research some players, especially ones that you don't want. Look at some of the "my blu-ray won't load" threads and see which manufacturers are mentioned.

Good luck and welcome to the blu world.

I'd also add, as you read and research, consider that a BD player is no longer "just" a BD player. I wouldn't get one without Netflix built in and probably wouldn't get one that didn't have WiFi built in unless I could easily run a wire. That is unless of course you already have someway to get Netflex.

And even if you don't have Netflix now, you might want it later. I dropped all premium channels from Dish and saved me almost $25 per month. Now use Netflix on Wii (and PS3 and laptop AND iPhone) for less than $10 per month.

Also check out how easy it is to do FW upgrades. You WILL have to do them. And if it seems the only way to get them is for the company to mail you a disc, skip it! You want a player you can do FW upgrades by d/l yourself to a thumb drive or direct over the net.
