How can I get a NTSC DVD to play on a PAL tv

Thinking of buying a DVD film from the States but wish to find out if it will work in a multi-region player.

The listing says it is....
[DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

What I am interested in also is will the NTSC be a problem for my PAL tv ?

That depends on the TV and the DVD player. Some reserach ahead of time based on the brands should give the answer.

Some TV manufacturers support both PAL and NTSC playback based on the signal provided. While other brands specifically do not, and only support the type for the area it was purchased. You might find it in the user manual or specs.

Some DVD players that can be made region free also can support conversion between PAL and NTSC. Mine has the option of selecting a specific output signal (i.e., PAL or NTSC), or defaulting to the format on the disk. However, mine only supports conversion over the component cables and not the HDMI.

Since my projector supports both PAL and NTSC I let my region free dvd player just output the format of the disk with no conversion.

So first you need to find out the details on what you already own to determine your capabilities. From there you are either set to go or will know what capabilities you will need to get it to work.

On on the other side of the fence buying region 2 pal disks for playback in the states.

I always thought that most UK sets and players were NTSC compatible.

If the disc is NTSC, region free (Region 0) it will play on a PAL DVD player/TV set.

The Region encoding will present a problem unless you have a PAL Region-Free machine (usually no-name brands) or you can crack the region code.
