Ok, so I have a panasonic dvd which has both fiber optic and coax output for the 5.1 sound. I have a little Aiwa shelf system that has the 5 or 6 jacks for the 5.1 input. Is there anything out there that I can use to convert the fiber?

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the Aiwa is 5.1 ready, meaning the DVD player would have to have an onboard decoder or you'd have to connect it to an external DD decoder, and then connect the decoder to the Aiwa.

I agree, it sounds like both units are 5.1 "ready", meanig that neither have a decoder.
