Q: if your TV doesn't have a S-VHS input & you have to use an adapter (scart for example), will that affect the picture negatively, or will the picture look exactly as good as with an S-VHS input?
Would really appreciate fast answer, cuz I'm planning on buying a new TV tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!

I think you may be confusing the term S-VHS and S-Video. S-VHS is a type of video taping and is not related to the connector.

And if I was buying a TV, it would have to have S-Video.

I would expect that you would lose some quality with a converter.

But most TVs nowadays come with multiple inputs and/or an S video connector nowadays. And if you're buying a 27" or bigger, I don't think NOT having this would even be an option.

Moving to DVD and Home Theater Hardware forum.

it can mean the picture will not be as good if the tv does not has an svideo connection.it depends upon the quality of the comb filter.a digital is better than an analog.a 3d digital is the best.if the tv does not even come with a svideo plug then i would doubt it has a good comb filter.http://www.cybertheater.com/Tech_Reports/Comb_Filter_Tut/guide_comb_filters.html.pay a little more to get a tv with a svideo plug if posible.

Maybe david_lynch means the S-VHS compatible scarts. Most European televisions don't have a dedicated S-VHS connector anymore but a S-VHS/RGB-compatible scart. This has the same quality as S-VHS but instead of a S-VHS->S-VHS cable you'll need a S-VHS->Scart cable.

Thanks for all the replies!
I bought a 28" philips pw5324 widescreen today. It has 2 scarts (one who can handle s-video), and one dedicated s-video input.
It was a good price too.. $500 USD! Which was about as much as I was willing to spend (I'm a student with a pretty tight budget, so..). It was kinda hard to find a TV in that pricerange with a dedicated s-video input, but if you spend ~$1000 USD and up, then pretty much all TV's have dedicated s-video input.

Small widescreen TVs are pretty common in the UK. My parents who live in London bought a Hitachi 28" widescreen TV about 4 months ago for about $500.

David:

I suggest the Ixos 135AV as a connector:
A Scart to S-VHS configuration designed to
allow the connection of components which
feature both the Euro Scart and S-VHS
facility. The 135AV is terminated with an
IXOS 214AV Ingot Scart and IXOS 213AV
gold plated S-VHS plug.

Used in combination with the IXOS AV
cable featuring twin layered noise
screening, the 135AV provides optimum
luminance and colour separation with
quality sound reproduction.

Available in a 3m length.

75 Ohm PC-OFC signal conductors with a
Mylar Aluminium foil wrap , an OFC braid
screen and outer PVC jacket.

d-rell: well, $400-$500 USD is about as cheap as they get over here =) There's cheaper ones too, but they're REALLY basic.

exm: the stuff you're reffering to, is that better to use than direct s-video out to s-video in?

No, not better than a direct S-VHS connection but a good alternative for just in case you don't have a direct connection (some TV's only have a direct connection in the front)!
