Im wondering about center channel placement...ive had it on top of my 35" Sony, but now Im thinking about putting it on top of my player and receiver which are inside the tv cart on shelves, but the speaker would be pretty much right below the tv...is this a good idea? or is on top usually better? When I think about it the speakers for the tv are on the bottom, so why not the center one?

Souldn't matter too much. Most people put it on top simply because it sits nicely on top of the TV, and your receiver is (usually) too low to the ground, so you don't have a line of sight to the speaker. If the receiver is higher up off the ground, it's usually becuase it's to the side of the TV, and you *definetly* want the centre speaker either on top or directly below the TV, otherwise, the directionals will sound very odd when somebody speaks (since it'll be coming from the side of the TV, and not directly from it). This page explains a bit better. I'm sure there are even more out there.

Bollux..thanx for the input...and something really wierd the URL for that page is msu.edu and I go to an msu univ...I just thought it was funny..anyway..if I put the center speaker below I would have to open the glass door evertime to listen to it but that woudlnt be such a bad thing if it gets it out of the way..thanx

Align it as much as possible with your main speakers: make sure that they are more or less on the same height!

Well here's the thing..my L/R speakers are only 2 1/2 feet off the floor, but the center on top of tvon top of the stand is about 4' 10" and if I placed it on top of the player in the stand it would be about 1' 8" so who knows

Duck - I have my speakers about 2' off the ground with the center below the TV. Haven't had any problems with it, although when I first moved the speaker from the top of the tv, it was a little strange because my ear was used to the sound originating from above rather than below. Good luck

Duck - I'm not telling you what to do. But I would suggest that instead of lowering you center you raise the left and right fronts somehow. In the higher Freq., sound is extremely directional. If you put them in line with your ears you will hear a difference and a clarity in the sound. I guess that is what you want. But if its not that important to you, I would still worry about the airflow in your cabinet that might be blocked. Also know that at 2' off the ground your kneecaps will have the best seat in the house. Enjoy and Good Luck.

Thanx for the replies guys..just to make things a little clearer..my L/R's are exactly 2' 5" tall..they are KLH's http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000021YT9/qid=966455265/sr=1-6/104-0836370-0991156 To be exact...so Ive never had them off the ground, I suppose I could find a way with stands or something...

Yeah, about the case they airflow wouldnt be all that great..I have the player and receiver in there right now and Im a little worried about the heat as it is. Although with the center below instead of on top it would be a lot closer to the top of the L/Rs..

One factor to be considered to be placing it underneath in the cabinet would be resonances in the cabinet. I could see this being a problem, especially at high volume levels.

Whatever is closer to the level of your ears while sitting down.

I really have no choice, but on top.

sounds good to me!

The best thing is to try both ways to find what's best. Kind of like sex: me on top, her on top, from the back, standing up.... then I usually go back to what felt best
