Need info ASAP on the best deal on a new DVD player. I used to have a Philips DVD940 - but the ex-wife got it. Needs to be cheap, function rich, etc ...
I currently don't even have a stereo to play it on (she took that too), but will get one soon. I got the 27" Sony WEGA though.

So again, what's the latest greatest deal out there?

Go for the Toshiba SD1200, DD/DTS output, and a favourite for Toshiba 2109/1200 owners a ZOOM function, and more.

The Toshibas (e.g. SD1200) and Pioneers (e.g. DV-525) are generally the most popular players around here, and most agree that they offer a lot for their value.

I went with the Sony DVPS360. Was considering the discontinued DVPS330 but for $20 dollars more went with the newer model. Major point was the component output.

I'm looking for a DVD player that will play Chinese VCD's... I was thinking about getting the Toshiba from Mercata but was turned off by it when it said "will play most VCD's".. I need something that will definitely play ALL VCD's.. can anyone help? My range is between $200-$300.

Thanks in advance!

My Sony plays HK VCDs without any problems. Will NOT play a CDR though...

Tosh also has some DVD firmware issues of late ...search for thread in this forum if interested in discs with problems.
