Speaker advice

Hey guys. I'm going through and replacing my speaker set one-by-one and came across this deal and I wanted to shoot it past those who know far more then I do on the topic.

This is for a rather large and open livingroomdiningroom sort of area. I was going to get a left and right (possibly a matching sub) and found a deal for Infinity TSSSAT4000 3-Way Satellite Speaker with MMD Drivers for about $350 each speaker.

Should I pass it over for something else or is that the best for about that price range ($300 - $400)?

Thanks for any input you guys have!

I Remain,
... with tiny logitech speakers.

You should listen. Speakers are all different. Even good one's sound different from one another.

That is a good budget for speakers. In general I'm not a huge Infinity fan. Tho I haven't heard those. There are several threads about speakers, but I'd look at the "usual suspects"; Mirage, KEF (personal favorite), Celestion, Boston, Maggies (depending on receiver/amp), Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Monitor Audio (drool), B&W, Paradigm, SVS (by reputation and excellent subs).

Maggies
AKA Magnepan, for those who don't know the nickname.

Yea..by and large they still make a quality speaker. Like every other line you want to listen to the ones you might buy if at all possible.

Yup, why I said "depending on receiver/amp".

They have a following and yea I left them off that list by accident. I'm not a fan, but truth be told I just listened to a set the other day. But I don't know what model and they were "nice". The store I was in was high end, so I'm assuming they were a top of the line Polk. Was actually in the listening room getting idea for lighted posters and sat and listened for a bit and asked the guy on the way out what they were.

I was checking out Polks today in showrooms all across town. Seems to me that when you get into better speakers, they are the worst of the best. I was not impressed at all, and they weren't cheap.

Listening for yourself is the key, IMHO. Everyone has their own opinion. Getting suggestions is great, but ultimately you have to decide what you like the sound of.

If you're willing to go with a bookshelf, give the Paradigm Mini-monitor a listen in your price range. I was amazed with the sound when I listened to them. I ended up upgrading from them to Monitor 7's (free upgrade policy through the stereo shop), but not because I was unhappy with them by any means.
