DirecTV RF Remote Question

I have the HR21-100. I'm assuming the RF Remotes will work with this DVR. Has anyone ordered one of these? Do they work well? I like the idea of not having to point directly at the DVR, so I'm looking at order one of these. I also noticed they have NFL versions, which are a few dollars cheaper than the regular $25 RF remote.

Re: DirecTV RF Remote Question

I have the 21-100 and it came with an RF remote. They work fine. I'm not still using it that way, but it did work. Don't know anything about the NFL version, are you sure it is RF?

Re: DirecTV RF Remote Question

These remotes work great. The only issue is that they won't control anything else while in the RF mode. So if you use the remote to control the volume on your TV, it won't work. You might want to look into the Logitech Harmony remotes. They have a couple that use RF so you don't have to have direct line of sight to any of your components. This is especially handy if you have your components in another room or behind a wall.

The site says it has all the features of the Regular Universal RF remote. So your standard remote that came with the 21-100 could also be used as a RF remote?

Re: DirecTV RF Remote Question

I'm not concerned about the remote controlling other equipment. I just want to be able to change the DTV channel without having to point the controller directly at the DVR.

Sure they will, just not as an RF remote. You can still point at the TV or receiver to control the volume.

Yep, I got RF models with both my 21-100 and 2nd DVR, I forget which designation it is, one of the more recent models. There is also a non-RF model that looks exactly the same. I assume there is a designation somewhere on it that indicates RF or not.

I thought they still controlled other components via IR while controlling the DVR via RF, though. I can't remember, and my lovely family have lost/destroyed all 3 Directv remotes I've owned for these DVRs, so I can't really check. And damaged my MX-500.

Re: DirecTV RF Remote Question

I have the HR20, HR21, and HR22.
I can do IR or RF with all 3 units.

As Eddie W mentioned, you can still control the TV volume even when the remote is in RF mode (the TV remote signal will be sent via IR). As far as I know, all RF remotes can do both IR and RF.

Re: DirecTV RF Remote Question

The first Dish Network RF remotes could not. If they were in RF mode, they could not do any IR. Stupid design.
