Re: Blu ray player
It would help us if you narrowed it down a little:
1. What price range are you looking for?
2. Would you want to stream online content?
3. What kind of audio output would you prefer?
4. Is there certain brands you prefer or want to avoid?

Re: Blu ray player
I think the consensus winner is the Oppo BDP-83. (high quality, fastest load times, etc.)
Panasonic is probably the second (and cheaper) choice. I have a Panasonic BD-55. It's been awesome.

Skyclad is right, we don't have nearly enough information, especially when it comes to price range.
The Oppo is great, but it's $500. Oppo now offers a less expensive player, but I've read no reviews of it yet. Panasonic is a great player, too (I've owned Panasonic and Oppo both). And you can't ignore the PlayStation 3.

Re: Blu ray player
Since you're buying new. ask yourself if you plan on participating in 3D within the next two or three years. If the answer is yes, wait a bit; there will be multiple 3D capable BD players coming out soon. And, of course, they'll comtinue to play 2D BDs and DVDs also.

Re: Blu ray player
I'm not sure if 3D is useful unless you have a really big flat panel (55" or larger).
Anyway, I'm now in the market for a Blu-ray player myself. I want a player that offers these features:
1) Fast disc loading times.
2) Clear DVD upconversion to 1080p.
3) BD-Live support with external antenna that supports Wi-Fi (if that's even possible!).
4) Reasonably priced--like under US$200.
