Well, historically DVD/VHS players have had crappy DVD players and crappy VHS players put together for more money than 2 separate, better players would cost. I don't know what quality the BDp in this unit would be, there really hasn't been a bad BDp yet. So maybe that isn't a problem, and the price on Amazon is certainly not too high.

What is it you find amazing? Frankly, I'd say save another couple bucks with the BD60 and drop the VHS completely.

Where's the 8-track slot?

Upconversion of VHS? That's different. Not even S-VHS?

Unless you're really hard up for space I wouldn't combine components like this.

I doubt it does any region DVD/blu-ray. Not without some expensive mod kit i'm sure.

I'm sure the VHS up conversion isn't anything amazing but compared to hooking a standard VHS player up to a HDTV I'm sure its much better. And again... Its region free so that's another huge plus.

Are you sure? Is it a version from a non-USA site? That would likely be a good reason to get it, if you need that, I still have to maintain region-free DVD players if I want to play some of my favorite discs. Haven't had time/energy to get that deep into worldwide BD.

I'd still drop the VHS, though. Transfer anything precious/homemade to digital and toss the tape.

Oh, missed this. That is only going to be true if the upconversion in the player is better than in your TV.

Re: Panasonic VHS / Blu-ray combo player. Any good?

I'd still like to see someone release a DVD/Bluray combo player and see how many people fall for it.

I still can't believe there are so many people I talked to who say "If I get a Bluray player, what will I play my old DVDs on?"

Hahaha! I had a friend the other day tell me that her DVD player must be old because it wont play her Blu-rays. She was quite surprised to find out that Blu-rays do not play on DVD players only DVDs play on Blu-ray players. I got a pretty good laugh outta that.

Anyone worth their salt already has an upconverting A/V receiver- I can upconvert not only my VHS tapes, but also Beta, laserdiscs and CED videodiscs to 1080p!

I have a VHS deck with linear stereo too, which you need to play any tape in stereo made before 1984. Most Hi-Fi decks only play the old lo-fi track in mono.
