I went to Radio Shack and saw their line of Home Theater cables and they looked pretty good... The prices were way better than Monster and the connectors were 24k gold plated...what do you guys think?

well you can do a search on "cables" or "wires" and you'll come up with a ton of responses. i personally went with both RS cables and monster. i went with monster S Video for
DVD player -> Receiver -> TV
Monster Fiber Optic
DVD Player -> Receiver
but for my vcr i went with regular stuff from RS cuz i figure how much better can my crappy vcr look? and RS cables for the audio out of the TV into the receiver as well. i'm not really sure which is better but i was willing to pay a few extra bucks for piece of mind i guess. the choice is up to you. i went with both to satisfy my conscience.

DUH! It completely depends on the system. When I upgraded to Monster ILR2 bass got tighter and the sound more dynamical. When I used the same cable at a friends system it didn't matter that much. So really: 10% of your budget is a good benchmark for costs of cables.
FYI My tested system: Lexicon DC-1, Marantz Mono-amplifiers, Marantz CD72mkII. My friend: Onkyo DS-939, Pioneer CLD-925.

Check out the Acoustic Research line of stuff at www.avconnect.com. They work like they are supposed to and are priced well.
They also carry monster cable, so you can directly compare them. I think the Acoustic Research stuff goes for about the same as the Radio Shack stuff. While there may not be a difference, I would go with Acoustic Research.
Bo.
