I'm looking to buy a standalone DVD player (have one in my PC..but not close enough to use with my TV). I can only budget $200 for one and want to get opinions on models and brands in that price range. Even if you suggest ones that are slightly higer retail, I am pretty good at bargain hunting..hehe..

Thanks in advance for any help.

toshiba 1200 i saw at a b&m for 200. sony 360 i saw for 225 at a b&m so i'm sure you'll be able to find better prices if you shop hard. i think those two would be excellent entry level dvd players for you.

I would get the Sanyo DVD-5100 at Costco. Check out the review at audioreview.com. I owned this player for six months and I never had a single problem. You can get one for $200US. Best money you'll ever spend. I think it's available in the US?

I would highly recommend the Sony DVP-360. I rate it the best in its price range, considering a/v quality, features, and outputs. (compared to the lower-end Toshiba, Panasonic, and Pioneer players.)

I think the MSRP is 249.99, but I bet you can find it for around 200.00.

I own the RCA 5520P DVD player. It can be had for under $200. It's very easy to use and it's great for an entry-level player.

At this point and time, I would stay away from Toshiba......many people are having firmware problems with their machines and Toshiba is doing nothing to take care of their customers.

Add $25 or $50 to your budget and purchase a good Sony or a Pioneer!!! Good Luck!!! Let us know what you finally decide on...

Well, I've heard a lot of good things about the RCA and Sony, however, I recommend stayong away from the Phillips. We have these things go out every two weeks on us.
