Computer problem with High Def video

So my Playstation 3 recently broke and untill I get a new one Im out a blu-ray player. Well my laptop luckily has a blu-ray drive so I've been backing up my blu-ray discs to mkv high definition video format. My problem is that when I go to play the video files I run into video stuttering. Can anyone help me to figure out as to why this is happening? Heres a little more info on my machine. I connect the laptop from it's hdmi out port to my plasma tv to watch movies. It has a ATI Radeon HD 3200 video card and 3GB of DDR2 RAM.

No one is going to help you with a question about illegally ripped Blu-rays, "backups" or not. It's against the rules here.
