I purchased the Kenwood HT-402. It came with 5 speakers and a passive amp, along with the receiver. My question is when I listen to CD's, Radio, or TV how do I get sound out of the front and rear speakers. My sub works fine, so I'm not worried about that. I can get all five speakers to work w/the sub when I use my DVD player.

Also, I don't have the remote. Someone, (bastards) broke into my place and stole my TV & VCR but not the DVD player not receiver (dumb & stupid burglars). The bad part is they left me the remote to the VCR but took the remote to the receiver. I called Kenwood and they wanted $70 for another remote. To much for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on a replacement?

You might have to change the setting on the reciever to a setting that plays all 5 speakers, maybe DD/DTS, but it would have to be upmixed (is that a word?).

As for the remote, you could get a all-in-one remote for about the same or even more (Some $100+) money, Id just get the kenwood one.

For rear channels to play w/stereo material like CD's, you need to either turn on a DSP/surround mode (the 357, I recall, doesn't have any) or manually hook up the rear speakers to the front speaker binding posts (e.g. A+B speaker option). That may lower the impedence too much for your receiver (8ohms to 4 ohms for a parallel connection)- check the manual for what it can handle.

You can get an excellent universal remote: cinema7/ Radio shack 15-1995 for $25-$30.

Kenwood receivers are pretty well covered by the pre-programmed codes for the cinema 7 (code 313). A few keys have to be learned (e.g.video 3): http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin...thread.cgi?442

The radio shack remote doesn't know pre-programmed Kenwood codes - it has to learn all of them.

You can always "borrow" or "visit" a Kenwood remote and learn the other signals.
