Should I take this deal on a 65" Toshiba?

A local video store has a display model TW65x80. It's last years model of the 65" TV. He will deliver it for $3800. Very tempting considering the new one is almost double that. I don't see many used ones available so I'm not sure of the values.

Just remember that this item has been overworked on a daily basis for hours and hours....the price may sound good but unless they are able to possibly transfer a warranty over with the TV then you may want to buy new!!!! If you have money to burn then go for it!!!

Just find out how long it's been there. And remember everyday for probably atleast 8 hours a day it's been at 100 level on Contrast more than likely!!!
And get a GREAT warranty if you do take it just in case.
If not go with a new 56" for a similar price and you'll be happy with that.
I'm pleased with my 40".

Like the previous posts mention, if it has been on all day everyday with the contrast way up be very careful. Howevr if it is a small dealer which only turns it on to audition a DVD player or surround sound and uses it only a few times a day for a few minutes each time it is a great deal. I found a Mitsubishi 40" tube which retailed for $4000 new at one of these places for $1200.

I looked at a Toshiba TW40X81 floor model at a local retailer in November. The picture looked impressive even though the set was not tweaked and the color was blooming. I was impresssed enough that I bought a new in the box unit and have been happy with my purchase. I went back to that store last week and the picture on that floor model set was terribly washed out. Checked out their settings and the cantrast was set at 99! Turned it back down to 30 (my set is at 24)and it looked better, but this set no longer looks like it once did or how my set looks. It was running an HD signal even. I suspect that the set may have been run too many hours with contrast level set too high, and caused irreversible damage. I think I would think twice about buying a floor model RPTV.

This is a video store not an electronics retailer. Anytime I've been in there the TV has been off. I'm tempted but I'll probably wait anyway. Thanks for the input.

Personally, I think if you are going to spend that much, don't go projection... I am waiting for the plasma tv's to get a bit more reasonable. The brightness fades quickly even on the new HD projections as you move either side of center.
Wish they would come out with a 40" direct view widescreen like the new 34" ones or lower the plasma prices. I want picture quality first and foremost. 40"-50" range works fine unless you have a HUGE room.

FYI it comes with a full warranty because it's never been sold. Gives me a full year to get anything I don't like fixed.
