PS3 (BluRay) Doesn't Letterbox?
Hey guys! I know everything about the different aspect ratios but I've come across a problem with my PS3/Blu Ray which is connected to a projector.
On this projector, there are 3 settings for image resolution:
- 16X9 (for anamorphic widescreen)
- 4X3 (for full frame presentations)
and
- Letterbox (which stretches a non-anamorphic widescreen picture to anamorphic proportions...sort of a pre-set zoom button)
On my previous DVD player, the "letterbox" function worked fine, but I've tried it on several non-anamorphic movies on my BD player and the picture stretches VERTICALLY. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Thanks.

The PS3 is upscaling to 1080p. Turn off the upscaling when watching non-anamorphic video. Huge pain in the ass, I know. I have to do the same thing with my TV.

Oh okay, I get it. That makes sense, I'll try that (even if it does sound like a pain in the ass...luckily, I don't have many movies in letterbox). Thanks!

And heads-up, you can change the upscaling method while watching a movie. Press Triangle* and it’s under the Video options.
*Wow, that really sounds lame. Why couldn’t they have stuck with A, B, C, etc., like everyone else??
