How much did everything cost you?

edit-

Never mind, I see it. 400 bucks if you've already got the tools...

Oooh. Power tools!

Great job on the sub and the expose on your website, Patman!

Must have gotten some scared looks from your neighbors.

"Hey, Pat! Whatchya building there?"

"It's my new sub!"

"Honey, pack up, we're moving!"

Blade, thanks! I've actually had a similar conversation with one of the neighbors, but he hasn't started on the move...yet.

Patman, I had a great idea this weekend for your sub. Have you ever hear of tambours. They are thin wood slats glued to a flexible backer. They ar commonly used for the "rolltop" on rolltop desks. You could use this around the tube and it would look great. I will try to find some online to show you. If you ever saw any of the old infinity stuff we used this alot.

here are some links

http://www.nationalproducts.com/

You are in the heart of the industry. I would just look around town and you may fin some good deals.

What do you think?

BFrank, that's a possibility! I'm so amazed you even gave my sub any thought at all over the weekend.

I tested for my tuned frequency for the sub, and it's right around 18-19Hz, so I didn't do too badly with the port length at all. I had tuned it for around 19-20Hz. And I also tested both drivers with the same results. If I had a CD with frequencies in 1Hz increments, I could nail down the tuned frequency (I had to guess between 17.5Hz and 20Hz from my BassZone CD).

Patman,

If you had access to a CD burner, I'm sure you might be able to find some decent shareware or something to generate wave files with the desired frequencies and burn them to the CD. Then, all you need to do is play the CD through your system. I'm not sure how accurate such a method might be though.

OK, Patman, if I were to purchase a sub with the same bass and sound quality as the one you built, do you have any idea how much it would cost?

You might have given me a late summer project.

$1000-$1300 is my low ball guesstimate.

Damn, it's just too bad I don't have the skills to make it. I don't have a router either.

If you'd ever see the computer case I spray painted, or the shelves I built, you'd think I was about 6 years old. I totally suck at stuff like that.

Oh, don't be so hard on yourself, it just takes figuring out what you want to accomplishment and how you go about doing what it take to meet that goal. If it means practicing cutting MDF on a test piece, then, get in some practice. You should see all the mess-ups I had when I cut my first endcap, but I was able to overcome my mess-ups and produce something that was usable for the final product. This is DIY, so don't be afraid to experiment, make stuff up as you go along, it's funner that way.

BFrank, it's just $2 worth of construction paper, this gag photo was worth it for the
yuks! But I may leave it on until I decide to get serious on the outer covering.

Maybe there's a market for changeable coverings for these big round subwoofers...

Come on, with a sub that size and shape you need to slap some fins on it, stick a nose cone on top, and pretend it's on the launch pad as it roars away during your DTS lasers.

Sure, it's a 2-bagger, but turn the lights off and that baby feels good!
