I'm not going to complain too much, considering I got the player for free from Hifi.com during a promotion, but this player seems to have serious issues with some discs. Both 'Stargate SE' and 'Heat' basically stutter through the chapter or two following the layer change (or at least where I presume the layer change to be). The sound cuts in and out and stutters, the video freezes for 20+ second intervals, etc. - it's really nasty and completely ruins the viewing. I talked to a ref at hifi.com, and was told that my unit was shipped with the latest firmware at the time (I received the player in Jan '00) and that there hadn't been any updates to his knowledge. I called up Samsung, and they told me to take it to an authorized service center, but the nearest one is an hour and a half away...
This isn't too big a deal, as when I'm at school Aug->May I use my HTPC for DVD output to my HT, but during the summer/winter breaks I don't have the computer/HT in the same room.
If anyone can confirm that this is known issue or is there is a fix I'd appreciate the heads up.
TIA

Thankfully, you did not pay for this player....I honestly believe you get what you pay for and some of these lower end DVD players are a good example of that.....Good quality DVD players by Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and Pioneer are very affordable around the 250-300 dollar price range. For people to be cheap and purchase some of these players for under $200, problems are almost guaranteed in one form or another!!! I would recommend selling this cheaply since you did not pay for it and purchase a better quality player!!! Good Luck!!!

well as I said, I only use this player during the summer, so I'm not going to invest in another player...I was just hoping there was an easy fix or something

I had the same problems last year with my Samsung 907. I keep returning discs that turned out to be player problem. I also did not opt for the upgrade as the service center is too far from my place. So I just replaced it with the Toshiba 2109 and never had a problem since. I only use the Samsung now as a CD player.
