By RGB SCART, SCART with composite signal, S-VHS cable?
How many people are using the standard SCART cable supplied instead of a pro-cable?

I am using a Vivanco Pro-wire SCART lead to send normal signals to the TV, haven't quite got to the RGB TV level yet - but soon, the lead is top notch, and will serve RGB well. Only 17 quid ($24) too!

100Hz/HD TV is also must for DVD watching (given the choice!). I picked up a second hand Loewe (albeit 4:3) for 160 GBP & found that switching the RGB/Composite option made quite a difference.
Where did you get the Vivanco?

The Vivanco was from a Techno shop (camera and electrical shop). In others it was as dear as 35 GBP.
I think that S-Video has a bit of a run on Composite - but not RGB. When I get that WEGA it will be a transformation.

My HDTV & player are both Toshiba & I use the Colorstream composite video cables. Apparently the salesman who sold me the tv must have thought I was loaded & sold me the best Monster cable which was $200 for a 6 ft. cable. Of course he said it was the only compsoite cable they had. (He also sold me the Monster Home Theater Reference power supply for $160) Oh well, I figured if I'm spending that much on the tv, I might as well have the best accesories.

The composite video jack (you know, the yellow one) going to the composite video input on my 19" TV. It goes through a switch box first, so I can switch between my DVD player and my 12yo VCR.
Yes, I would like something better, but this setup, unfortunately, will have to do for now.

Component video from my Magnavox 850 dvd player to my Hitachi 36SDX88B which is a 4x3 HDTV ready TV that does the anamorphic squeeze from the menu.
I also have the Hitachi connected thru the VGA connector from my PC.
Either way, as good a picture as I've seen, other than HDTV 1080i. Better than many movie theaters, certainly.

El Kabong- 200USD for a composite cable ?
Shaun 3000, check this: http://www.kevlar.karoo.net/scart.html
I've made my own cables from a length of screened OFC fully wired scart cable & gold plated connectors, using an auto switch box to feed two VCR's & DVD player. As long as the R, G & B are separated, I don't think the differences between cable types are that great.

Well the one in our home theater is S-video, as well as the one in our upstairs den is. All the others are regular video hookup. Mainly since those tv's were bought when there was no s-video

I do not understand all of the terms that
you used. I connect mine using both S
Video and component video cables. The S
Video goes through my receiver and the
component goes directly to the TV. My
Denon avr 3300 does have component video
switching, but the onscreen displays will
not work for changing settings, so I went
ahead and hooked up the S Video, too, for
that reason. Component is what I use to
watch movies though. It beats S video
hands down on my RPTV.

I dunno Big Daddy. I have another setup to TI 6" monitor circa 1978 or 1982. It's composite and the picture is still extra sharp!! Also used to run a VCR through an Apple Composite Monitor (Green Display). Ah.. don't make em like they used to.

Seems like alot of people are using composite signals.
Xytraguptorh- RGB means Red Green and Blue, for SCART see above link.
S-VHS connectors transmit or receive the video signal separated by connectors for the luminance signal and chrominance signal. Conventional video cables and video equipment connect via a composite signal which contains the luminance (Y) signal and the chrominance (C) signal combined. This can result in a lower quality video signal, interference and picture loss.
This is especially noticable with higher quality kit !

I am certainly using composite, purely due to the fact that the TV doesn't do RGB. I think it could be on it's way out and I am moving soon, so it could finish it off. It has been going strong for nearly 7 years now. The question is, whether to go for a cheap large 4:3 for now, or a cheap 32" WS and hope that I can live without the new features that come out over the next 4 years.
Strapped for cash too
