HD Audio settings for Sony S5000ES and Classe SSP-800

Hi,

I need help. I have just put together a new HT system which includes:

Sony Bluray S5000ES Player
Classe SSP-800 Receiver

The Classe unfortunately doesn't decode the new HD codecs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-Master Audio. As the 5000ES is able to decode the new codecs, what is the best connection from the bluray player to the Classe receiver in order to output 7.1 High Def Audio. I currently have an HDMI connection but a friend recommended that I connect the player and receiver with multi-channel analog connections because he said this would enable me to enjoy true HD sound. Is that true or should I stick to the HDMI connection? Would the HDMI enable me to output 7.1 sound (when the bluray has a 7.1 soundtrack of course)?

Appreciate any insight into the best 5000ES settings and those for the Classe SSP-800 as I am still new to these kits and am experimenting.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum. This should be in the hardware section. You can use analog outs if the receiver can't decode.

Can I borrow some money? Classe makes some sweet products. Out of curiosity, what kind of speakers do you have?

Lol. Got B&W DSW8s for Surrounds and Rears and B&W CT700's for LRC.

Yes, it would allow HD sound. However, you may not need to abandon HDMI.

Yes.

Thanks,
Another option could be to use HDMI and set the 5000ES to PCM output. I would assume it can do this as Sony is a huge proponent of the PCM methodology. This way the player will decode the HD codecs into basic PCM lossless and your Classe should be able to play it. This also gives you HD sound. And with fewer wires and (probably) better bass management.
