Is it my player or the disc?

I rented a DVD at Blockbuster last weekend (Deuce Bigallo Male Giggalo), never had a problem with my DVD player (Pioneer DV414) and in the middle of the DVD, the audio stopped and the picture went funky. The video can best be described as cutting it into little confetti (or in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.. when the TV kid was zapped into a million bits floating in the air). I looked at the DVD and there wasn't the usual scum on the bottom (scratches, scuffs, snot and who knows what). The bottom of the DVD was perfect like right out of the package new. As I rotated the disc at an angle in my halogen lamp light, I noticed the rainbow swirl was a bit curved. Did I rent a 'warped' DVD last weekend? I hope it isn't my player.

Sounds like a bad disc. If you have another machine with which to test it, it will likely do the same thing.
You could try cleaning the disc, but if it looks clean then it's more likely that it's a mastering error or the data has been damaged somehow.

I had the same exact problem with the Bone Collector that I rented from Blockbuster!!!! I looked at the DVD and it was just as clean. I have a Sony DVD player if your interested......
I wonder if there is a pattern going on here????? Do these DVD's come from the same studio?? Maybe Blockbuster buys the movies that are rejected for defects!!!!

It's not your DVD player, it's the disc. It must have been a bad disc. Same thing happened to me with Mickey Blue Eyes, I rented it and it went all nuts. But it was because it had alot of scratches and finger prints. I cleaned it and it worked fine. Don't worry, nothing is wrong with the player.

Definitely the disc....!!!! I would look at the back of any disc from a rental store prior to placing it into my player. They do not take much time to clean their discs upon their return and many people out there have no clue on how to handle these items!!!!

Actually the bottom of the disc .. not a single scratch, scuff or anything stuck to it.. Like brand new and out of the shrink wrap for the first time. Though, like I said, rotating the disc in bright light, the rainbow refractions were bent real funny compared to discs that actually work in my player flawlessly. Glad it is the disc and not my player.
Also glad it isn't my own disc.
