Sometimes when I'm watching my DVDS the bass is overpowering. For example, I was watching Metallica's S&M and the bass was so loud that it was annoying. I tried adjusting the levels for midbass and woofer levels and that helped, but it made the drumming sounds weak. What would be the proper adjustments to get tight, clean bass without it being overpowering?
I have a DCM 10 inch sub, and my receiver is a Sherwood DTS,Dolby Digital. I tried adjusting the levels on the sub channel but that didn't seem to help either.

Sounds like the room is affecting bass performance. You may want to try moving the sub a couple of inches/feet to see if you can't smooth out the response. Or the sub may not be set up correctly.
The best way to set up a sub is with a test disc. It's probably the best way to get a good blend between the sub and the main speakers. Once you have the levels set correctly (can take several days of "tweaking"), you really shouldn't have too much of a problem.

I am not familiar with the dcm sub. Is it powered? If so how much power does it have. What levels are you adjusting. My rule of thumb is to adjust the crossover point at not more than 80. Any higher can cause it to get in the voice and muddy the sound. Also if it is underpowered it will be way too loud and slow. The volume level shold be set so you cannot locate the sub the room as low frequecny is for he most part nondirectional.
Good Luck.
