Re: Go shopping for my brother

How big is the room? How is the light? What source material?

Why is 50" too big? Is this a dimension issue with the set itself, ie., needs to fit in a specific place? Or is someone setting arbitrary sizes based on limited knowledge? Has he and the wife looked at any tv's?

Re: Go shopping for my brother

Sorry, big room, pretty small viewing area, not much natural light. The space is limited by other furniture that cannot move.

The 32" tube TV died, he doesn't want to wait 5-10 days for delivery, hopefully something he can pick up at CostCo or *shudder* BB

Thanks Brian, I was settling on the 46" Sharp as my recommendation as well. I wish this was my problem. :-)

Well I only "recommend" it because it is in the budget, size and store requirements.

Personally I would not buy an lcd tv, except for the new backlit Samsung LED tv's. I would want to look at various sets before deciding. As it is I prefer plasma and would look there, the 50" is a better recommendation.

Depending on what the source material is, satellite, dvd, bd . . .I would want to check the player I have or need to buy and the quality of various source material. But then again I may take it further than most people that just want a tv to watch in the evening.

I thought coupons would disqualify the Bing cashback.

depends on the store. I bought through this company last week (using bing and the coupon) and the cashback is "pending" and showed up immediately. Bigger stores, from what I heard, won't confirm the order to bing for cashback purposes if a coupon was used.....but I don't think this is the case with all stores.

Re: Go shopping for my brother

I just bought the Sharp 46" LCD a few weeks ago (there is a thread) and I'm enjoying it. If I'd had $300-400 more I would have upgraded, but for $1000, I got a great TV!
