I a newbie at home theater and just got a set of speakers for ~ $500
That is a pair Klipsch KSB 3.1 for mains, a Sc-1 center and a pair of KSB 1.1 for surrounds. Is this a good choice in terms of matching and pricewise for 500? I've read about the paradigms, nht, energy's and mirages. For this range, would I have been better off with any of the others?

$500 for five speakers is a pretty good deal for quality speakers. Klipsch speakers have a distinct sound that some people like, and others dislike. Then again, this can be said for all speakers.
If you are happy with the way they sound, then you shouldn't care what others think.
Of course, you may want to look into buying a powered sub. www.soundandvisonmag.com has an excellent review of five $500 subs.
