I have my front speakers on stands that hide the speaker wire inside the stand itself. My rear speakers are wall mounted and are run under the carpet and up the wall using ivory (to match the walls) tubes that I got at Home Depot. Hope this helps.

Simply cut them off.
;-)
Alternatively try and fit them under the carpet (if you have one) or carefully tape the wire to the speaker stand (if you have one) so that it goes down the whole length of it. Better than it just hanging there in mid-air.

I ran my wires before the sheetrock was installed... I realize not everyone has this solution.
If your speakers are mounted high on a wall, crown molding can provide a "conduit" to run around the room.

I hide 'em under some duct tape.
You didn't mention where you're trying
to hide the wire.
There's flat 12AWG speaker wire available
that can be run under the rug, if one exists.
For wall-mounted speakers, just make a tiny
hole in the wall where the speaker will go,
and a tiny hole in the wall about 1 3/4"
above the floor. Then run the wire behind
the sheetrock (be patient, it will take
awhile to route the wire); use an 8 foot run
of some cheap solid-core 12AWG home wiring
(very stiff) to route the speaker wire
through the holes.
Hope this helps.

i know this is a specific case but...i just moved to a townhouse with hardwood floors. i was able to go through the floors (drilled 1/2" holes in corners of rooms) and route the wires in the basement. lowes/home depot sells wood putty to fill the holes when i leave...
